PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are beginning to figure out the chemistry with their star trio. After starting 0-4 when Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George all played together, the Sixers have won four of the last five such games after Wednesday’s win over the Washington Wizards.

The star trio combined for 73 points in the win as the Wizards truly had no answer for the star power that all three bring to the floor. Embiid had 28 and 10 rebounds, George had 23–13 in the second quarter–and Maxey had 22 and eight assists. It was another big step forward for these three.

“The chemistry has always been great,” Embiid said. “Obviously, it’s nice when you’re making shots. All of us did in the first half. The third quarter, I kind of got going a little bit, but it all depends on game to game.”

Embiid is right about how it will look on a nightly basis. The Sixers have so many options between Embiid, George, Maxey, and one cannot forget about rookie VJ Edgecombe who is quickly becoming a big player for this group. He was impactful in the win over the Wizards as well.

“Some games, it’s gonna look like that,” Embiid continued. “Some games is going to be Tyrese and PG, Tyrese and VJ, or me and PG, vice versa. So, just got to keep working together, but my main focus is, I think if we’re a better team defensively, that’s when we’re gonna go wherever we want to. Offensively, I think we have enough talent to do whatever we want. So, it’s all about locking in defensively.”

The Sixers just need to continue to grow their trio. As long as they continue to string games together, then it’s going to get better every single day. Chemistry is an underrated aspect of the game and the Sixers weren’t able to come up with much of it in 2024-25 due to the injuries. That’s the goal in 2025-26 as they look to continue taking those steps as a team.

“I think next step is just being consistent with it,” added George. “String more games like this together. That’d be a step in the right direction.”
