BOSTON — The Boston Celtics proved they could hang around with the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night, but they didn’t do enough in the fourth quarter to pull out a win. The Spurs prevailed 100-95 at TD Garden and dropped the C’s to 24-14 on the season.
It was a back-and-forth affair, but the Spurs ultimately outscored the Celtics 14-6 in the final 5 minutes of play to overtake the game. Former Spur Derrick White led the C’s with a game-high 29 points while Celtics star Jaylen Brown added 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox and star center Victor Wembanyama recorded 21 points apiece, with the latter phenom draining the dagger jumper to seal the win with 19 seconds to go.

The Celtics managed just 4 free throw attempts to the Spurs’ 20, which drew plenty of in-game ire from Brown. And although Boston narrowly lost the turnover battle, 10-8, that difference of 2 was another main factor in the Celtics’ close loss.
Boston is now 0-3 against the top-4 seeds in the Western Conference. It does have a nice opportunity to bounce back in its next matchup though, as the Green Team hit the road to face the 8-31 Indiana Pacers.
