The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the top teams in the Western Conference so far this season as they currently sit fourth in the West standings with a 27-14 record.

Of course, Minnesota has reached the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons, though they have been unable to advance to the NBA Finals.

The Timberwolves are hoping to change that this season behind their core of Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert, though they may need to make some upgrades to their roster ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

It has been reported that Minnesota has been looking to acquire a point guard ahead of the trade deadline to pair alongside Edwards in the backcourt due to their guard play not being what they had hoped it would be thus far.

Timberwolves May Show Interest in Coby White to Upgrade Backcourt

For the Timberwolves, they have been linked to many different point guards in trade rumors, including Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, though they may look at other options to address their need in the backcourt.

One player who has also been linked to Minnesota is Chicago Bulls guard Coby White, who could be on the move this season if the Bulls decide to move some of their key players to help with their rebuild.

In a potential trade, the Timberwolves could send Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham and draft capital to the Bulls in exchange for White.

Of course, moving on from DiVincenzo may be a tough decision for Minnesota to make as he has had a solid season as their starting point guard.

Moving Dillingham may also be a tough decision for the Timberwolves to make after they aggressively traded up to draft him eighth overall in the 2024 draft, though he has not developed as much as they had hoped during his first two seasons.

Because of this, Minnesota may be willing to swap these two players for White as he would give them a major upgrade at the point guard position while also giving them another key young player to add to their core.

White would provide Minnesota with a reliable scorer and playmaker alongside Edwards in the backcourt who could help them get over the hump this season and make a run at the NBA Finals.

This season, the 25-year-old guard is averaging 17.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 44.5% from the field and 31.5% from three.

By making this trade, Minnesota would finally be able to address their need at the point guard position which could help them compete for a championship not only this season, but for many years to come.

Despite this, the Bulls may be unwilling to White in trade discussions this season while the Timberwolves may look elsewhere around the league to possibly add another star to their roster.
