The Dallas Mavericks could again be shorthanded when they face the Utah Jazz in Saturday’s rematch, with Cooper Flagg’s status remaining in doubt as Dallas continues to navigate an extended stretch of injuries.

Flagg was listed as doubtful on the Mavericks’ latest injury report after suffering a left ankle sprain Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets. The injury forced him to miss Thursday’s 144-122 win over Utah, a game in which Dallas relied heavily on depth and internal continuity to produce its most lopsided victory of the season.

Flagg was one of eight Mavericks ruled out Thursday, along with Daniel Gafford (right ankle sprain), P.J. Washington (right ankle injury management), and Max Christie (illness). On Friday evening’s report, Washington and Christie were upgraded to probable, while Gafford, like Flagg, remained doubtful. Dallas also listed Moussa Cissé and Miles Kelly as questionable.

Jason Kidd Emphasizes Collective Response

Despite the absences, the Mavericks responded with one of its most complete performances of the season, setting season highs with 144 points and 19 made 3-pointers while finishing with 65 bench points.

Head coach Jason Kidd credited the group’s energy and leadership for setting the tone.

“Great team win,” Kidd said. “Great bounce back from last night, being able to make 19 threes. I thought we shot the ball better. I thought we got off to a really good start. But I thought Klay was the leader of the group in the sense of being able — the energy that the guys played off of getting him the ball. And he does the hard part in that, shooting it.”

Kidd also highlighted the number of individual milestones reached throughout the night, including Dwight Powell moving into the top 10 on the franchise’s all-time rebounds list.

“When you look at DP and what he means to this franchise, the length that he’s been here, he has seen it all,” Kidd said. “You look at what Klay has done in his career and for him to move up on the three-point list is incredible. … I thought Musa to have a double-double tonight — his first career double-double. So a lot of great things tonight.”

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl Fills Immediate Role on 10-Day Deal

With the Mavericks’ frontcourt depth stretched thin, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl stepped into the rotation Thursday night on a 10-day contract and provided immediate production.

Robinson-Earl finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-of-8 from the field while adding two steals. His activity on the glass and ability to play within the flow of the offense helped stabilize lineups as the Mavericks navigated multiple absences.

Before the game, Robinson-Earl outlined the approach he brought into the opportunity.

“Obviously, they’ve had some injuries and just need as much help as they can,” Robinson-Earl said. “But I feel like I can go out there and just play as hard as I can. My goal is to make everybody around me the best player they can be as possible. So I like going out there, having fun, trusting my teammates, playing hard, bringing energy, and doing all the little things to help the team win games.”

Robinson-Earl also pointed to familiarity with the organization as a key factor in his transition.

“Being with the Legends, having that familiarity, not having to join a new team after being waived with the Pacers — I think that made the process very seamless,” he said. “It was very easy joining the Legends and being ready to go right away.”

Kidd echoed that sentiment when explaining why Dallas targeted Robinson-Earl amid the injury crunch.

“Yes,” Kidd said. “There was a list, and he was one of the guys on that list for us to try to get. And so having him in training camp was a big reason. He understood what we were doing.”

Moussa Cissé, Caleb Martin Capitalize on Expanded Minutes

Moussa Cissé was another beneficiary of the Mavericks’ shortened rotation, recording the first double-double of his career with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.

“It’s my preparation,” Cissé said. “I come here every day and work, be able to prepare myself mentally and physically to be ready at any time because of my position. I don’t know when I’m gonna get in, so whenever I get a chance, I go over there and just perform.”

Caleb Martin continued his recent momentum with 14 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals, building on what has been his strongest stretch in a Dallas uniform.

“I think this time, being able to get the minutes, he’s put in the work, he’s been patient, and you can see that it’s paying off for him,” Kidd said. “Not just tonight, but the last couple games. The energy that he’s had has sparked us.”

Thursday’s win showed Dallas’ capacity to respond under pressure, but the margin remains thin.

If Cooper Flagg and Daniel Gafford are again unavailable Saturday, the Mavericks are likely to lean once more on depth, preparation, and internal familiarity as they look to build on their offensive rhythm against Utah.
