On Monday night at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors secured their fourth straight win with a 135-112 victory over the Miami Heat. However, during the game, the Warriors suffered a loss that could alter their season.
With under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, Jimmy Butler came down awkwardly after receiving a pass from Brandin Podziemski. Butler went to the ground and quickly appeared to be in pain, grabbing at his right knee. After remaining down on the floor for some time, Butler was helped off the court by his teammates and exited the game. The Warriors then ruled Butler out for the remainder of the game with a right knee injury.
Late after the game on Monday evening, Shams Charania of ESPN reported Butler has suffered a season-ending torn right ACL injury in his knee.
The 36-year-old former All-Star is averaging 20.1 points on 51.9% shooting from the field to go along with 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Butler ranks in the top three for the Warriors in points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game. Butler also leads the Warriors in steals per game with 1.4.
Winners of four in a row, the Warriors are playing their best basketball of the season. The Warriors are 12-4 over their last 16 games and hold a 25-19 record on the season. The Warriors currently hold the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.

Without Butler, the Warriors will need to lean on players like Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, De’Anthony Melton and rookie Will Richard. The Warriors could potentially call on Jonathan Kuminga. However, the 23-year-old forward has been at the center of trade chatter after a long offseason contract stalemate and recent trade demand. Kuminga hasn’t entered the rotation in a month. The Warriors have until the Feb. 5 trade deadline to explore possible trades.
