Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is in the middle of the best season of his career as he’s been put in a position for more responsibility on the offensive end of the floor. With many projecting Porter to be selected to the All-Star team for the first time in his career, many in Brooklyn may be disappointed that he wasn’t voted in as a starter.

The NBA announced on Monday that Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo would be the Eastern Conference starters in the 2026 All-Star Game. That means that Porter will have to be picked by the head coaches as a reserve if he is going to be an All-Star this season.

In addition, the NBA announced what the voting results were for the Eastern Conference All-Star team and while the players within the top-five were named the starters, it’s interesting to see where Porter ranks. Porter finished the voting with the ninth-highest weighted score, which is a combination of the fans (50%), players (25%), and media (25%) voting numbers.

Porter, who is averaging 25.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 39.8% from three-point land, received the 10th-most votes from the fans and the media. Interestingly enough, Porter received the ninth-most fan votes, giving him a weighted score of 9.5, putting him almost one full point ahead of Toronto Raptors forward Brandon Ingram.

If the voting is an indication of Porter’s All-Star candidacy, it seems like he should be a reserve, especially since there are seven reserves, but that will depend entirely on the head coaches in the Eastern Conference. Plenty of head coaches around the league have had great things to say about Porter and his performance this season, but time will tell if that leads to them making him an All-Star for the first time in his eight-year career.
