As you build your fantasy basketball lineups for tonight’s DraftKings contests, check out Zach Thompson’s top three NBA DFS stacks to target.

This Wednesday, the NBA features a five-game main DFS fantasy basketball slate on DraftKings, with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. ET, which is when the Hornets host the Cavs. Looking at the matchups and potential opportunities, a few smash spots stand out. These three key NBA DFS stacks make sense to build around as you assemble your fantasy basketball roster for this slate.

A key place to start your planning for every fantasy basketball slate at this point in the season is the daily injury report. For Wednesday, Zion Williamson and Cade Cunningham are both questionable due to illness, while Santi Aldama is doubtful and Darius Garland, Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Williams are some of the biggest names already ruled out. Make sure to check back for updates to the injury report before the action tips off at 7 p.m. ET.

The NBA DFS main slate includes a variety of contests and pay-out structures on DraftKings, headlined by the NBA $300K Fadeaway [$100K to 1st].

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Atlanta Hawks

The Grizzlies have a good matchup against the struggling Hawks, and Aldama’s potential absence opens up extra usage across their rotation. Atlanta plays at the second-fastest pace in the NBA, and it has allowed the third-most points per game over its last five contests, giving up 122.6 points per game. The Lakers had 141 against the Hawks and the Celtics scored 132 points against them during their current four-game skid.

The Grizzlies had 126 points against the Magic in London on Sunday and they have only played two games in the last 10 days (although they were overseas).

Core Plays: After missing a couple of weeks, Ja Morant ($7,700) returned on Sunday and had 24 points, 13 assists and 52.75 DraftKings points in 28 minutes against the Magic. He should have a more favorable matchup in this contest and has been productive when available for the Grizz. His availability is a concern big-picture but in DFS, we can focus on just this one matchup and build around his upside at a very affordable salary. Jaren Jackson Jr. ($7,500) is the other big option to consider, especially without Aldama and with a favorable matchup against the Hawks, who have been generous to forwards.

Value Options: Jock Landale ($5,000) had 21 points and 41 DraftKings points on Sunday and has 30+ fantasy points in three of his last four and five of his last seven. Rookie Cedric Coward ($5,500) is also a solid midrange play after scoring double-digit points in 15 of his last 16 games. Without Aldama, there could be more bargain options in the mix as well with more usage for GG Jackson ($3,900), Vince Williams Jr. ($4,700) and Jaylen Wells ($5,100).

Detroit Pistons at New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans have been prime for stacking against all season, giving up the third-most points per game in the NBA. Centers, shooting guards and small forwards have specifically thrived against them, and the Pistons will look to continue that trend on Wednesday, coming off their big home win over the Celtics on Monday night.

Both Cade Cunningham and Caris LeVert are questionable due to illness, and as we get close to game time we should get a better idea of who will be out or limited. I’d probably avoid using either of them since the bust potential will be high, but the peripheral pieces could end up a great option for NBA DFS stacks.

Core Plays: The fact that centers have smashed against the Pelicans should be great for Jalen Duren ($7,200), who could be in for a monster game if he’s the focus of the offense. He’s put up 30+ fantasy points in five of his last six games and seems to be fully ramped after missing four games with an ankle injury. Tobias Harris ($5,200) is coming off a huge performance against Boston in which he dropped 25 points and 33.2 fantasy points, and if he picks up some of Cunningham’s usage, he could again be an ultimate value.

Value Options: The bigger question will be what the Pistons do in the backcourt if both Cade and LeVert are out. Marcus Sasser ($3,000) and Jaden Ivey ($4,100) could end up in huge roles. Daniss Jenkins ($3,400) stepped up earlier this year with Cunningham out and has shown a high ceiling when he finds his way to playing time. He’s been very limited lately, though, while the rest of the backcourt rotation has been healthy. Duncan Robinson ($4,300) doesn’t usually create his own shot as much, but he can help pick up some of the potentially available scoring, especially if he gets hot from deep.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

I’m not sure I’m fully on the Hornets’ quickly crowding bandwagon, but fans are swarming to the fun young team, and they are in a good spot in this matchup against the Cavs. Cleveland has played fast all season, ranking sixth in pace on the season and fourth in the last 10 games. It has allowed the second-most opponent points over its last five games and the fourth-best field-goal percentage as well.

The Hornets are coming home for this matchup after beating the Lakers and Nuggets on the road while going 3-2 on their trip to the Western Conference.

Core Plays: Core Plays: LaMelo Ball ($8,000) always has a high ceiling as the focus of the offense, he’s been playing limited minutes, opening up more usage for Brandon Miller ($7,000) and Kon Knueppel ($6,600). Miller has at least 29 fantasy points in five straight games and has reached 40+ fantasy points in four of his last nine. Knueppel had 35+ fantasy points in four of his last nine games and went off for 47.2 fantasy points against the Warriors last Saturday, continuing to prove himself as one of the best rookies for fantasy.

Value Options: Moussa Diabate ($5,200) has been a solid value at times, including his monster 48.75 fantasy points against the Clippers on the team’s trip. He’s sharing time with Ryan Kalkbrenner ($4,700), who hasn’t had quite as high a ceiling but has been pretty consistent for a rookie. Collin Sexton ($4,800) has at least 25 fantasy points in three of his last four and has helped take on more work to keep Ball healthy. Sion James ($3,700) is a bargain play you can use to round out the Hornets’ stack, since he comes at such a bargain salary and doesn’t have to do much to bring good return on his minimal investment.
