The Brooklyn Nets are coming off one of the worst losses in franchise history after suffering a 120-66 loss at the New York Knicks on Wednesday. Brooklyn appeared pretty discouraged after the loss, leading to head coach Jordi Fernandez, and his players, taking responsibility for the loss. The good news is that the Nets can turn the page for Friday’s game against the Boston Celtics.
The Nets released their injury report for Friday’s game against the Celtics and it’s encouraging to see that the only player with an injury designation is forward Haywood Highsmith. The last time that Fernandez gave an update on Highsmith’s condition, on Jan. 7, he didn’t have much to say about Highsmith outside of saying that Brooklyn is happy with his progress in his rehab.
Moving on in the injury report, the Nets still have rookie guard Ben Saraf on G League assignment in Long Island, which makes sense given that Brooklyn is as healthy as it has been at any point this season. Ever since Saraf started the first six games of the season, he has either been coming off the bench for Brooklyn or playing in the G League where he will get more reps for Long Island.
Saraf has been putting together solid performances during his time in the G League as he’s averaging 13.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 39.2% from the field and 37.9% from three-point land. When Saraf will see playing time for Brooklyn will likely depend on the amount of injuries affecting the rotation and how many guards are on the team following February’s trade deadline.
The Nets are likely to be upset with themselves following Wednesday’s loss at the Knicks as they were throughly outplayed at Madison Square Garden. The only positive that came out of that game is the fact that Brooklyn will have the entire rotation available for Friday’s matchup against Boston, but the Celtics are another team that is playing at their best this time of the season.
