Neemias Queta is listed as questionable ahead of the Boston Celtics game against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, Jan. 23. The impressive 7-footer is dealing with a non-COVID-related illness. The medical staff will likely make a final decision regarding Queta’s availability closer to tip-off.

Josh Minott (ankle), Derrick White (rest) and Jayson Tatum (Achilles) join Queta on the Celtics injury report; however, that trio is all listed as “out” and will not participate in the contest. Should Queta miss the game, Joe Mazzulla could lean into a small-ball lineup, or he could lean on Chris Boucher. The veteran forward has struggled for playing time since signing with the Celtics during the summer.

Queta has been a rock for the Celtics this season. In 41 games, he’s averaging 10.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists, shooting 65.7% from the field. He’s shown legitimate growth as a screener, rebounder and shot blocker. Furthermore, Queta’s defensive IQ has noticeably increased, which is likely, while his foul rate hasn’t spiked, despite the additional minutes.

Should Queta be ruled out, Luka Garza could be in line for his second start of the season. Boston’s game against the Nets will tip off at 7:30 PM Eastern Time.
