Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks is one of the NBA’s biggest on-court personalities, and he didn’t hold back from sharing his latest opinions on a Thursday livestream appearance with AMP streamer Agent.

Brooks touched on a variety of basketball topics, including the Toronto Raptors’ first championship in 2019 over the Golden State Warriors.

When asked why Toronto failed to win a championship before 2019, Brooks placed blame solely on one player, former Raptors star and current Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan.

“Yeah, you know why? It’s because they got DeRozan out of there,” Brooks said. “He wasn’t pulling his own weight. It was his fault. I’m just keeping it real.”

Dillon Brooks: “The Raptors couldn’t get over the hump.”

Agent: “They DID get over the hump.”

DeRozan was a franchise favorite for the Raptors, leading Toronto on five consecutive playoff runs in nine seasons, including the Eastern Conference Finals in 2016. It wasn’t until the Raptors traded him to the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard before the 2018-19 season that the franchise won its first championship.

Brooks doubled down on his remarks about the DeRozan-led Raptors’ inability to handle LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in three separate playoff chances. DeRozan came to the Kings in a three-team deal back in 2024. His sentiment toward Brooks on the court proved testy during an opening night matchup in Phoenix between the Kings and Suns in October 2025.

Whether basketball fans agree with Brooks’ comments, things indeed changed in Toronto after DeRozan’s departure. DeRozan admitted the emotional toll it took to watch the former team he was loyal to for almost a decade win its first NBA title.

Should fans expect more drama between the two players when the Suns and Kings play their final matchup of the season? The Suns will be at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on March 3.
