Rookie Tre Johnson registered a new career high in scoring on Saturday, leading the Washington Wizards in a loss on the road against the Charlotte Hornets.
Johnson produced 26 points and six assists in the 119-115 loss at the Spectrum Center. He finished by shooting 8-of-22 from the field, including a career-high six 3-pointers, in 36 minutes as the Hornets lost for the ninth straight game.
The sixth overall pick tallied 18 points in the first half alone to lead the group at the intermission, knocking down four of his first eight 3-point attempts. But it was his playmaking and passing in the game that stood out most to coach Brian Keefe.
“This guy has been in our gym, working on his craft,” Keefe said. “He is just getting accustomed to the NBA, and he is growing every game. … It is not just the scoring; I’m impressed with the pass. We know he can shoot and make plays for himself, but I’ve been really impressed with how he is involving his teammates. He draws so much gravity and so much attention, and he is getting others involved, which has been terrific.”
Johnson is averaging 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 39.3% shooting from 3-point range with the Wizards. He ranks sixth in rookie scoring and has the most 3-pointers through the first 37 games of a career in franchise history (81).

The 19-year-old has played a key role for Keefe and the Wizards, starting each of the last 15 games. He has scored in double figures 13 times over that span, averaging 15.1 points, 3.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc.
Johnson is emerging as a consistent offensive threat for the Wizards, behind his array of moves, off-ball cutting and ability to shoot from deep. The group has been impressed with him and is eager to see his continued development this season.
