Brooklyn Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe has been playing well for the Nets this season, whether that has been him coming off the bench or in the starting lineup in a pinch. Brooklyn has been relying on Sharpe and his elite per-minute production in the second unit many times this season and with how well he’s playing, other teams are considering trading for him to improve their own frontcourt.
“They’ve already checked in on another Mavericks centre, Daniel Gafford, per a source, while Orlando’s Goga Bitadze and Brooklyn’s Day’Ron Sharpe are other names to monitor,” TSN’s Josh Lewenberg wrote when discussing Sharpe. Lewenberg was breaking down options that the Toronto Raptors have to making their team better prior to the Feb. 5 trade deadline and going after Sharpe could be something to monitor moving forward.

“That way, they could see how this group holds up in meaningful games during the spring before reassessing in the off-season, when it’s easier to make significant change,” Lewenberg continued after explaining what the Raptors would give up for center depth. “All signs point to playing it relatively safe: using the expiring contract of Ochai Agbaji and a second-round pick (or, perhaps, a protected first-rounder) to avoid the tax and try to add a depth big.”
Sharpe, 24, is having one of his best seasons in the league as he’s averaging 7.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 60.3% from the field and 67.6% from the free-throw line in 42 appearances. While Sharpe has spent most of this season being the backup center to starter Nic Claxton, the former North Carolina Tar Heel has shown glimpses of what he could look like with other teams, especially during his three starts.
Sharpe averaged 12.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 56.0% from the field and 61.5% from the charity stripe while playing 30.6 minutes per contest. Sharpe, who has drawn some interest from several teams over the past year, including the Boston Celtics, is in the first season of a two-year, $12.5 million deal that could entice teams like Toronto to go after him in the trade market.
