The two-game win streak is over. The New Orleans Pelicans competed hard Tuesday night but fell short in a 104-95 loss at defending NBA champion Oklahoma City.

In a defensive, low scoring game throughout, the Thunder led 17-14 in a very rugged offensive first quarter.

The Thunder led 48-46 at halftime but increased the lead to 79-69 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Pelicans drew within five points at 92-87 in the fourth quarter but got no closer.

It was a combination of excellent defense and poor shooting which produced the final and sent the Pelicans to defeat.

New Orleans shot just 34 percent from the field, including 25 percent from 3-point range.

The Pelicans stayed close by forcing 16 Oklahoma City turnovers, resulting in 24 points.

Zion Williamson played well again, scoring 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds but he took just 11 shots, making eight.

Saddiq Bey finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists but shot just 4 of 16 from the field.

Trey Murphy had his worst game of the season, missing 17 of 20 field goal attempts, scoring just 10 points. It was too much to overcome.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 29 points, including 13 of 14 from the free throw line.

The Pelicans (12-37) next play Friday night at home against Memphis.
