MIAMI — In the day leading up to Wednesday’s matchup between the Magic and the Heat, multiple Orlando players pointed toward the desperate need of snapping the team’s losing streak sooner rather than later.

Jamahl Mosley‘s squad rose to the occasion on the road when it captured a 133-124 victory against Miami.

In a contest that featured 11 lead changes inside Kaseya Center, Orlando used a big third quarter during which it outscored Miami 40-20 to hold an 11-point advantage entering the final 12 minutes.

“The best part about it is, the things that we’ve been working on and things we’ve been talking about, we executed for the most part,” Mosley said after the nine-point win. “That’s what you’re most proud of, not necessarily the pressure of getting a win.

“It’s the things that you’ve been doing [that] are now being rewarded because of the way we chose to play,” he added.

Playing without Franz Wagner (left high ankle sprain injury management) for a fourth straight game, the Magic were led by Paolo Banchero (31 points), Anthony Black (26) and Desmond Bane (23), who combined for 80.

Miami (25-23), which had won its last two, turned the ball over 18 times for 24 Orlando points.

With its four-game losing streak behind them, the Magic (24-22) return to Kia Center on Friday when they host the Raptors on ESPN.

Banchero and Black

Banchero was aggressive getting to the basket and fighting his way to the free throw line. He led the Magic by making 8 for 10 attempts at the line and added 12 rebounds with four assists, scoring 30-plus points for the second game in a row and fifth time this season.

Black, the lone member of the Magic in double figures with 13 points at the half, kept pace with the Magic star by hitting a trio of triples, notching 20-plus points for the 15th time this season.

The third-year guard was active on both ends when he racked up four steals, seven rebounds and five assists.

“Having lost four in a row, that’s never a place you want to be,” Black said. “But we did a good job of responding. We knew this was a must-win game and I think we just did a good job coming out ready to play.”

Rest of starters

Bane stepped scored 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, marking the 21st time scoring 20-plus in a Magic uniform.

Still on a minutes restriction, Jalen Suggs did a little bit of everything as he totaled 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, but he shot 1 for 7 from beyond the arc.

Wendell Carter Jr. also found himself in foul trouble early when he picked up three fouls prior to halftime. He didn’t let that slow him down when he scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Second unit

Orlando entered 25th in bench points per night (31.7), according to NBA.com.

First off the bench, Tyus Jones knocked down his only 3-pointer and distributed nine assists.

Tristan da Silva led the Magic reserves in scoring with 12 points and had a pair of second-half 3-pointers.

Jonathan Isaac provided disruptive defense by recording two blocks, two steals and five rebounds with four points in 17 minutes.

“He changed the game defensively,” Mosley said about Isaac. “Being able to go in there and guard multiple guys, multiple positions, protect the rim. … Just his energy was very infectious for us.”

Paint points

The Magic scored early and often in the paint as they racked up 26 points in the first quarter on 13-for-16 shooting in that area.

Orlando slowed down some in the second quarter when it scored 12 just points in the paint, shooting 6-for-14 in that stretch.

Miami not only had 28 points in the paint in the first half but also got to the free throw more often off those drives. The Heat shot 13 for 15 at the charity stripe before the break while the Magic shot 4 for 6.

Orlando finished with a 62-54 advantage in the paint.

Rookie watch

Second-round pick Noah Penda saw eight minutes of first-half action but lacked efficiency on offense, shooting 1-for-6 from the floor with a free throw for 3 points.

First-round pick Jase Richardson entered the game about halfway through the second quarter but played only the next two minutes.

Neither saw the floor in the second half.
