The calendar is about to turn to February. That means, there’s just one more calendar-turn until March. College basketball is heating up.
Kevin Young’s BYU squad is off to a solid start, despite two losses in their last three games. Granted, that was to Texas Tech in Lubbock, who rank No. 15 in the AP poll and then the undefeated, No. 1 Arizona Wildcats. Hardly a cupcake walk.

Still, BYU sits in a good spot, ranking 14th in NET even after Monday’s home loss to Arizona.
It’s time to dive into some Bracketology. Where will BYU land in the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday on March 15?
Joe Lunardi (ESPN): 4 seed vs. No. 13 Hawaii
CBS: 4 seed vs. No. 13 High Point
FOX: 4 seed vs. No. 13 South Florida
TeamRankings: 4 seed vs. No. 13 McNeese
On3: 4 seed vs. No. 13 Hawaii
The prevailing notion is that BYU is currently a No. 4 seed. They have slipped a bit, previously being projected as a three-seed by Lunardi earlier in the season. It could be because BYU is still seeking its first win over a top 25-ranked team via NET Rankings. Their best win at the moment is that buzzer beater against Clemson at Madison Square Garden.

They have a big chance to shake up their projections this weekend, when the Cougars travel to Lawrence to play the Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse. If BYU were to win that game, the opinion of the Cougars will shift.
As of now, this seems like a great team lacking true validation. They have missed a few chances to seal big, signature wins. They lost to No. 1 Arizona by three, No.3 UCONN by two, and sprinkled in two uneven wins against Utah.
AJ Dybantsa is currently the nation’s leading scorer, at 26.3 points per game. That includes three games of more than 30 points. He needs the depth around him to play just a tad better to seal a few big wins down the stretch.
