CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The San Antonio Spurs got stuck in Charlotte on Saturday night after their loss to the Hornets due to heavy snowfall across the region, the team said.
The Spurs were scheduled to face off against the Hornets at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte’s Uptown on Saturday, Jan. 31. The NBA announced Friday that tipoff got moved up to noon in anticipation of inclement weather.
That inclement weather became one of the most significant snowstorms that the Charlotte region has seen in over a decade.

The Spurs-Hornets game ended around 2:30 p.m. Saturday with the Hornets defeating the Spurs 111-106. By that time, however, several inches of snow had already fallen in the city and across the region.

Hundreds of flights were canceled at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Saturday. A ground stop — meaning all flights were to remain grounded — was issued for the airport at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, and wasn’t lifted until 7 p.m.
The weather prevented the Spurs from being able to fly back to San Antonio on Saturday evening, officials said on social media late Saturday night.
The Spurs were scheduled to go up against the Orlando Magic in San Antonio on Sunday, Feb. 1. That game was still expected to happen, but the game got moved back to 6 p.m. CT (or 7 p.m. ET) on Sunday, officials said.
Spurs social media pages hadn’t announced whether the team had made it back to San Antonio, as of this publication. The team was still advertising the Spurs-Magic game happening on Sunday evening, however.
Across the Charlotte region, many areas recorded 8-12 inches of snow from Saturday’s snowstorm. Road conditions were considered hazardous, and hundreds more flights were canceled at Charlotte airport.
Snow totals varied across the Carolinas, but some areas near the coast got around 15 inches of snow on Saturday. Local and state officials were urging people to stay home and stay off the roads while plows worked to clear the snow.
