Strengths:
* Immediate two-way impact – elite defensive versatility, work ethic, and competitive motor.
* Outstanding overall offensive efficiency – 1.060 points per possession (PPS), 86th percentile.
* Terrific in transition – 1.302 PPS (85th percentile).
* Excellent as a cutter and spot-up shooter – 1.067 PPS on spot-ups.
* Good shooting splits – 48.1% FG and 38.5% from three-point range.
* Skilled passer – 4.2 assists per game, often creates offense off movement and quick reads.
* Strong rebounding – 7.5 rebounds per game, attacks both offensive and defensive boards.
* Defensive playmaker – 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game with strong instincts.
* Versatile defender – can comfortably guard 2–4 positions thanks to length and anticipation.
* Competitive mindset – embraces big moments, wants to be the primary option.
* Great finisher – 1.17 PPS around the rim and 55.8% FG at the rim.
* Strong defensive rebounding percentage and help-side rim protection.
Weaknesses:
* Ball-handling needs refinement – limited wiggle and burst compared to elite creators (like prospects Paolo Banchero, Anthony Davis).
* Half-court offense can get stagnant – sometimes forces bad looks when the play breaks down.
* Isolation efficiency is below average – 0.511 PPS on isolation plays.
* Turnovers are an issue – decision-making under pressure (especially late games) cost Duke in close losses (see performances versus Kansas, Kentucky).
* Shot creation off the dribble is still developing – lacks advanced self-creation tools right now, 0.875 PPS as a PnR ballhandler.
* Defensive engagement fluctuates – Synergy defensive PPS (0.956) rated just Below Average (26th percentile).
* Occasional over-reliance on athleticism – needs to sharpen skill over pure physical tools.
Scout’s Notes:
A pro scout told HoospHype: “The safest bet in the draft – he’s dominating college ball when he should still be in high school. Elite two-way connector but not a true iso creator. His floor is All-Star, ceiling is franchise cornerstone. Just wins basketball games.”
“I think Flagg is limited offensively, likely a second or third option at best,” one NBA scout told HoopsHype. “I don’t see him becoming a dominant offensive player. He doesn’t seem to have the bag or the shot-creation ability that translates well to the next level. With years of development, he could potentially grow into a second option, but teaching shake and rhythm creation with the ball is difficult, and he has a lot to work on.”
