The Atlanta Hawks have continued
to navigate the trade deadline with marginal moves, this time
moving Vit Krejci to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for
Duop Reath and two second-round picks, as reported by ESPN’s Shams
Charania.
Krejci, a 6-foot-9 guard forward
that has a sweet shooting stroke, is currently averaging 9 points
and 2.2 3-pointers made per game on 42.3% shooting, which ranks top
20 in the NBA.
According to ESPN insider Bobby
Marks, the move allows the Hawks to create roster space, and
Atlanta now has seven future second-round picks at their
disposal.
ANALYSIS: Atlanta is currently
in their transition phase after trading away longtime franchise
cornerstone Trae Young to the Washington Wizards last month, fully
committing to building around first-time all-star Jalen Johnson and
core pieces like Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Onyeka Okongwu, among
others. Reath will be a backup big alongside Mo Gueye in the Hawks’
frontcourt, which also includes rookie Asa Newell.
For the Blazers, they acquire a
young piece in Krejci that can help with floor spacing as well as
additional back up ball handling duties.
