The Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline is inching closer, and all eyes are on Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Warriors have been projected to land the Greek Freak in previous mock trade proposals and reportedly are “serious contenders” now that his future with the Bucks remains uncertain. It has been speculated that Golden State would give up anyone not named Stephen Curry in order to acquire him.

Warriors guard Buddy Hield shared his thoughts on the deadline uncertainty after practice on Monday while talking at the podium.

“Whatever happens, happens, I’m just thankful to have a job,” Hield said. “I just know, whoever gets traded, that another team wants me perhaps and I’m going to do my best to be with that team.”

Buddy Hield stepped to the podium after practice and joked about the trade deadline. “Why do you guys want to talk to me, am I getting traded?”

Does this deadline feel different given how much smoke is out there?

Hield is averaging 8.0 points per game in his second full season with Golden State, his fifth NBA team. His fluctuating minutes off the bench have made him popular amongst trade talks. He has been traded three times in his 10-year career and elaborated, “It’s not easy but it’s the business we deal with.”

Warriors’ Buddy Hield came to the podium joking about potentially getting traded so he was asked how this trade deadline compares to other ones:

When asked how he developed his mindset, Hield credited his stint with the Indiana Pacers.

“I think after Indiana. Business of basketball. It is what it is, you can’t really get mad at it,” he said. “Like you have your stint in the league and then after that it’s either one year or you’re traded the next year, trying to figure it out.”

Hield added that player age seems to be a factor, and it’s a common occurrence with more veteran status. “When you get older in the league, stuff like that happens. Just trying to see how last you belong,” he said.

The trade deadline is looming, then the Warriors will get a chance to rest with the following NBA All-Star break. The team will have to decide if they can count on Hield to replace Jimmy Butler. If not, his days with Golden State could be numbered.
