AUSTIN, Texas — Junior Dailyn Swain recorded a double-double with a team-high 22 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Texas (14-9, 5-5 SEC) to an 84-75 victory over South Carolina (11-12, 2-8 SEC) in Moody Center on Tuesday night. This marked the second-straight game that Swain has posted a double-double, as he notched 18 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s win at Oklahoma.
Swain had 15 of his 22 points in the second half and converted 6-of-11 field goals and 9-of-9 free throws while adding three assists and two steals in 38 minutes. Graduate Tramon Mark registered 15 of his 18 points in the second half and hit 5-of-6 free throws while tying his season high with six rebounds in 27 minutes. Junior Camden Heide posted 12 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 threes), five boards and two assists in 35 minutes, and sophomore Matas Vokietaitis added 12 points (6-9 FT) and nine rebounds (five offensive) in 24 minutes.
Free throws and rebounding proved to be huge keys to the Texas victory. The Longhorns converted 29-of-36 (.806) from the free throw line, while South Carolina went 19-of-24 (.792) from the stripe. Texas registered a plus-15 (40-25) rebound margin, including a 17-6 edge on the offensive glass, and tallied a 20-7 advantage in second-chance points.
After a Vokietaitis dunk pulled Texas to within 6-4 at the 16:30 mark, the Gamecocks used a 10-3 spurt over the next four minutes to build a 16-7 advantage following an Elijah Strong layup with 12:32 remaining. The Longhorns responded with an 8-0 run to trim the margin to 16-15 after a Mark three-pointer at the 10:49 mark.
A Swain three-pointer evened the score at 23-23 with 6:20 left. South Carolina scored the next four points to grab a 27-23 cushion following a pair of Meechie Johnson free throws at the 5:34 mark, before Texas answered with a 5-0 spurt to take its first lead of the contest at 28-27 after a pair of Lassina Traore free throws with 4:03 remaining. The Longhorns closed the half on a 7-4 run to take a 35-31 advantage into the break.
Texas opened the second half with a Mark step-back jumper to build a 37-31 cushion at the 19:21 mark, but the Gamecocks used an 8-2 spurt over the next three-and-a-half minutes to tie the score at 39-39 following a Myles Stute layup with 16:00 left. A Johnson jumper evened the contest at 50-50 at the 11:23 mark, before the Longhorns went on a 9-2 run over the next two-plus minutes to take a 59-52 lead after a pair of Mark free throws with 9:02 remaining.
Texas increased its cushion to 68-60 following a Jordan Pope jumper at the 5:38 mark, but South Carolina used an 8-2 spurt to pull to within 70-68 after a Mike Sharavjamts three-point play with 3:23 left. The Longhorns sealed the victory with a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to build an 82-71 lead following a pair of Swain free throws with 23 seconds remaining.
Texas is back on the court when it hosts Ole Miss on Saturday, Feb. 7. Tip is set for 1 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

This marked the third game this season that Texas has overcome at least a nine-point deficit and gone on to earn a victory. The Longhorns also trailed No. 21/22 Georgia by nine points at the 0:37 mark of the first half at home on Jan. 24.
