The Washington Wizards are set to acquire 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks as part of an eight-player deal, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Among the four players headed to Dallas in the transaction is former Detroit Pistons big man Marvin Bagley III, who will join his fifth NBA team since being drafted second overall in 2018 out of Duke.

Bagley re-signed with the Wizards over the offseason following a trade from Washington to the Memphis Grizzlies at the 2025 trade deadline.

He carved out a fairly consistent role for a rebuilding Wizards team, averaging 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per appearance. Now he’ll change scenery once again to join the Mavericks.

The full trade sees Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum head to the Wizards in exchange for Bagley, Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, two first-round picks and three second-rounders.

The Pistons acquired Bagley from the Sacramento Kings at the 2022 trade deadline as part of a four-team deal.

Bagley would spend parts of three seasons with the Pistons, playing a total of 86 games with 43 starts as he dealt with some injury troubles. He would average 12 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55% from the field.

The Pistons would eventually deal Bagley to the Wizards in January 2024 with another year and $12.5 million left on a three-year deal he signed in July 2022.

Bagley was just on a one-year deal with Washington this season, so his contract expires at the end of the season and he’ll be free to sign elsewhere after having something of a bounce-back season in terms of production to this point.
