Ace Bailey is considered a likely top pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and the former Rutgers forward recently earned high praise from Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George.
Bailey was a third-team All-Big Ten selection, averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and one steal on 34.6% shooting from 3-point range. He ranked ninth among all freshmen in points (527) and 10th in rebounds (215).
The 6-foot-8 forward named the nine-time All-Star as one of the players that he has studied over the years, along with Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum. George, speaking on an episode of “Podcast P” released on Monday, likes the comparison by Bailey.
I always want to inspire and give kids, especially guys my type that have similar skill sets, the freedom to take it further than I have; that’s what I’m all for. We’re all here to inspire. I love that comment (by Bailey). What I love about him is that IÂ think he has big-time potential. He has big-time talent. He can score from any spot on the floor. He has an isolation game, which you don’t see that often in kids that size, that early. He can make plays. He can shoot over top of defenses. He can take advantage of mismatches. He can handle the ball in pick-and-rolls. He can catch-and-shoot. He can defend. I’ve seen him play elite defense.
Bailey is projected to be a top-five pick on June 25, with his size, scoring and instincts on both ends of the court. He has an incredible feel for the game and can score from each level after registering three 30-point performances with the Scarlet Knights.
The 18-year-old measured a bit smaller than expected at the draft combine earlier this month after Rutgers listed him at 6 feet, 10 inches. However, Bailey still boasts a 7-foot wingspan and registered a 2.78-second time in the shuttle run, the fifth-fastest mark.
Bailey has many similarities to George at this stage of his career, proving why he is highly coveted near the top of the draft this year. He projects to have a bright future ahead.
