It was no secret that Cam Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets didn’t see eye-to-eye.
That said, it was a bit surprising that Brooklyn was unable to find a trade partner for him at the deadline, especially given his expiring contract.
Instead of keeping the career 15.2 points per game scorer around, the Nets decided to waive the 24-year-old guard, giving him an opportunity to finish the season elsewhere.
Following the move, Thomas’ former teammate Nic Claxton spoke to the media about the situation. “I mean, you wish him the best. He wasn’t happy here, so you wish him the best wherever he ends up and hopefully he can help out whatever team he goes to and impact winning and continue to be the great player that he is.”
Given his tremendous scoring ability, Thomas is expected to have many suitors. However, it remains to be seen what Thomas is looking for in a new squad.
Will he join a contender in hopes of a deep playoff run? Or would he rather join a rebuilding team in hopes of increased playing time?
Either way, whatever team is able to sign Thomas will acquire an incredible one-on-one scorer. Despite having made only 88 career starts, Thomas has already accumulated 30 career 30-point games.
Additionally, he’s averaged over 22 points per game in each of the last two seasons, including 24 points per game last season.
Although the end to his tenure with Brooklyn was rocky, all signs point to Thomas being able to develop elsewhere.
