Magic rookie Jase Richardson will participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend inside Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., outside of Los Angeles, the league announced Saturday.

Richardson is one of four players making their event debuts when he’ll be compete against Carter Bryant (Spurs), Jaxson Hayes (Lakers) and Keshad Johnson (Heat).

The annual competition is part of NBA All-Star Saturday, which tips off Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. on NBC and Peacock.

Richardson’s father, Jason Richardson, won the event twice with the Warriors (2002 and ’03).

For Orlando, Jase Richardson becomes the ninth player in franchise history to take part in the event. A member of the Magic has won the dunk contest three times, including the past two years.

Former Orlando guard Mac McClung, who signed a two-way contract with the Bulls this week, became the first three-peat winner of the dunk contest, capturing the title twice the past two years with the Magic and once with the Sixers.

Hall of Famer Dwight Howard also won the competition in 2008.

Richardson hasn’t dunked often for Orlando this season, recording just four dunks according to basketball-reference.com, but he’s shown off his skillset in the past during pre-game warmups and during his lone season at Michigan State.

The Magic rookie has averaged 5.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists during 12.0 minutes per contest across 36 games.

The Slam Dunk Contest will feature a two-round format, with judges scoring each dunk. In the first round, all four players will attempt two dunks, and the combined score will determine the top two who advance to the final round. Each finalist will then attempt two additional dunks, with the higher combined score determining the champion.
