PHOENIX – A former 3-point contest champion looks to defend his crown after years away. The NBA announced that Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker will take part in NBA All-Star weekend in the form of the 3-point contest next Saturday night. Booker won the event in 2018 by shooting then record 28 points in the final round to win the title.

Booker taking part in All-Star Saturday Night:
Booker accepting the invite isn’t surprising, but the NBA inviting is quite a head scratcher when looking at the numbers. The 28-year-old is shooting a career low in 3-point percentage and shooting the lowest amount of 3-point attempts since his sophomore season in 2016-2017. As he’s grown throughout the year, Booker has found his game to be in the mid-range, short corner areas to be most effective.

Regardless, Booker will look to become a two-time winner, joining the likes of Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry, Jason Kapono, Peja Stojakovic, Jeff Hornacek, Mark Price, Craigh Hodges and Larry Bird. Of that list, Curry is a two-time winner with the longest times between wins at six year. If Booker wins, he’ll overtake that spot with an eight year difference.
The full field for next Saturday’s three-point contest will be rookie Kon Knueppel, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Bobby Portis Jr. and Norman Powell. Booker’s biggest competition will be Lillard, as he is a two-time winner. Lillard is recovering from an Achilles injury suffer in last year’s playoffs, which could make him rusty when back on the court shooting.
