The Philadelphia 76ers are currently 3-1 on their West Coast road trip with one more game in the Pacific Northwest on Monday when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Going out to the West Coast is never easy no matter the circumstances, and the Sixers have handled everything at a high level as they now move forward.
After a win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, the Sixers will be looking to get a little greedy. They are sitting at 30-22 on the season, the No. 6 seed in the East, and are one game back of the Toronto Raptors for No. 5. A win on Monday would cap off an impressive road trip for Joel Embiid and Co. and would lead to some momentum returning home on Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
“For sure,” coach Nick Nurse told reporters after the win over the Suns. “Yeah, it’s good. Obviously, we got a winning road trip here. I’m still kinda disappointed with the second game in LA, but bounce back here tonight, played pretty well, and hopefully, we can get ready to close out the road trip in Portland on Monday.”
Nurse was referring to the fact that the Sixers were unable to sustain a 14-point lead they built in the third as they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers on the third game of the trip, but Philadelphia was able to bounce back against a Suns team that likes to play physical and play mind games. Led by Dillon Brooks, the Suns love to try and get under their opponent’s skin.
The Sixers didn’t let that bother them on Saturday.

“We stayed professional,” added Tyrese Maxey. “We didn’t let any of the rah rah stuff—we didn’t let any of that affect us. We got physical back and that’s good. It happens and we can take that.”
The key to slowing down a guy like Maxey and a team like the Sixers is to get physical through that rah rah stuff, but Maxey knows it’s coming and has to find ways to adjust. One has to believe the Trail Blazers will try the same thing on Monday night.
“I know it’s coming as soon as you get up like that and any good team or any team that’s playing for something, they’re not just gonna let you steamroll them,” Maxey explained. “They’re not gonna lay down. They’re gonna put up a fight, and sometimes that’s what’s gonna have to come with it. You gotta get physical and you gotta sustain that lead. We did a good job of that.”
Tip off from the Moda Center is set for 10 p.m. EST on Monday.
