The G League’s OKC Blue survived a thriller in a 137-135 overtime win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Monday. The home victory improved their record to 6-14 in the regular season.
Both teams had high-octane offenses from the jump. The Blue were in a 41-36 deficit after the first quarter. That continued in the second frame as OKC scored 31 points. It entered halftime in a 71-67 deficit to the Skyforce.
The Blue and Skyforced continued to put up video-game numbers after the break. They each had 33 points in the third quarter. That put OKC in a 104-100 hole. I know the G League usually plays at a faster pace than its NBA counterpart, but both teams being in the century mark already is a little surreal.
Eventually, the Blue tied things up. It was a one-possession game for most of the final frame. The lead see-sawed. With 14 seconds left, Josh Christopher tied things up at 130 points apiece. Chris Youngblood couldn’t hit the game-winner on the other end. OKC scored 30 points in the fourth quarter. Overtime, we go.
Both teams scored five points. Tied at 135 points, the next bucket would serve as the game-winner. Brooks Barnhizer did so on the mid-range jumper.
