San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson is not happy that his team has only one All-Star this season.

Johnson spoke about his frustration over that fact before their dominant win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. The first-year head coach was blunt with his comments prior to the game, saying he believes De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle should have been named All-Stars.

“I do think it’s very interesting that De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle have not been named an All-Star,” Johnson said, “So I’ll answer that question that wasn’t asked. But seven teams in this league have multiple All-Stars, and we’ve played pretty good against a lot of the top teams in this league.”

Are De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle All-Star Snubs?

Fox and Castle are two worthy All-Stars. Fox has been great this season, averaging 19.3 points per game, 6.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three in 44 games.

As for Castle, the second-year guard has improved his game from his rookie season. His points are up, averaging 16.7 per game along with 7.0 assists and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 46.8 percent from the field in 43 games.

The Spurs are one of the best teams in the league this season, boasting a 37-16 record, which is good for the second seed in the loaded Western Conference.

San Antonio is the only team without multiple All-Stars. Teams with multiple All-Stars are the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and New York Knicks.

The only All-Star the Spurs have is their franchise cornerstone, Victor Wembanyama. The Frenchman has been terrific this season, averaging 24.4 points per game, 11.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 blocks while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 37 percent from three in 39 games and 28.9 minutes of action.

“Nothing to take away from anybody who has been named an All-Star, because they have a lot of great players,” Johnson said. “But the only way I can think we are deserving of [only] one All-Star means there must be an awful lot of people that have Victor Wembanyama as one of the front-runners for MVP. So thanks for asking.”
