Wizards mascot G-Wiz is suing Lakers’ Jaxson Hayes for a pre-game shove. His lawyer was one of Hayes’ former girlfriend’s attorney in a domestic violence case.

WASHINGTON — Washington Wizards mascot, G-Wiz, is taking legal action against Los Angles Lakers, Jaxson Hayes after Hayes shoved the mascot during pre-game introductions on Friday, Jan. 30. Hayes was suspended one game for the incident. 

Hayes pushed the mascot “G-Wiz” during pre-game introductions ahead of the Lakers’ 142-111 win on Jan. 30.

Hayes had 10 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal off the bench. He served the suspension on Feb. 5 when the Lakers played against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to a statement from the NBA.

Hayes was drafted by Atlanta in the first round of the 2019 draft, but his rights were immediately traded over to New Orleans. He spent his first four seasons with the Pelicans before joining the Lakers in 2023.

WUSA9 confirmed reports that Waukeen McCoy will take on his case. McCoy was also one of the attorneys representing Hayes’ former girlfriend, Sofia Jamora, in a domestic violence case against Hayes. 

According to ESPN, Hayes was charged with 12 misdemeanor counts, including three count of inflicting corporal injury to a spouse, two counts of domestic battery, one count of battery against an officer, one count of false imprisonment, three counts of vandalism, one count of aggravated trespassing and one count of resisting arrest on Jan. 20, 2022.
