The Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz agreed to a trade on Feb. 3 that involved eight players. Jaren Jackson Jr. was the star player in the deal, going from Memphis to Utah after nearly eight seasons with the Grizzlies.
After Jackson played three games with the Jazz, the team announced on Feb. 12 that he will have surgery to remove a localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) growth in his left knee. The PVNS was discovered in an MRI during a physical after the trade.

Jackson is expected to have surgery in the coming days, according to the Jazz. The surgery is expected to season ending, according to multiple reports.
The Grizzlies received Walter Clayton Jr., Georges Niang, Taylor Hendricks, Kyle Anderson and three future first-round picks in the deal for Jackson, John Konchar, Vince Williams Jr. and Jock Landale.
With the trade being completely finalized, Jackson’s injury won’t impact any of the compensation Memphis received in the deal.
Multiple reports have indicated the Jazz were aware of Jackson’s injury after doing his medicals to finalize the deal, but Jackson wanted to play in at least one home game.
Recent trades rescinded or amended due to injuries
The Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls agreed to a trade on Feb. 5 involving guard Coby White. The Bulls were originally expected to receive three future second-round picks in the deal, but after injury concerns were revealed on White’s medicals with his calf, Chicago sent two future second-round picks instead.
