Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons have absolutely crushed through the first 53 games of the NBA season, as their 40-13 record is the best in the Eastern Conference and second best in the entire NBA.
Cunningham, 24, has been the catalyst of the team’s strong season and recently earned the first NBA All-Star Game start of his young career, just one year after making the game for the first time in his career. The former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 23.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 9.6 assists, while shooting 46.2% from the field.

In addition to excelling on the court, Cunningham is also making some pretty significant moves off it.
As reported on Thursday by ESPN’s Shams Charania, Cunningham became a minority owner of the MLB‘s Texas Rangers.
“Detroit Pistons All-Star and Arlington, Texas native Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake of his hometown MLB team, the Texas Rangers, he told ESPN,“wrote Charania.

It’s unclear at this time how much of the team he owns, but it is worth noting that Cunningham is in the first year of his five-year extension with the Pistons. He is set to make over $46 million this season and will end up making over $61 million in his final year of the deal. He also has a deal with Nike that will see him receive a signature shoe.

Cunningham is an Arlington, Texas native and even threw out a first pitch ahead of one of the team’s games this past July.
While he isn’t the most vocal star, Cunningham is clearly making sure his financial future is set.
