• I’m ticked off at the NBA for making us watch Monday night’s Orlando Magic game on Peacock. In one of the most clownish productions I’ve ever seen, they had the names of the players directly above them and following them on the screen. The result of this was that the view of the ball was often obscured when shots went up. Also, they placed a large rectangle at the top of the screen with player stats. This was also a huge distraction from our viewing pleasure. That’s what box scores are for!
• Every day, we see pedophiles luring children through cell phones and the internet. I ask, again, where are the parents? The children do not watch the news to understand these problems. It is the parents’ responsibility to educate their children on these issues. It is also the parents’ responsibility to teach them knowledge of the world: good, bad, evil, caution. If parents instilled the fact their child was loved and wanted, it might lessen some of these problems. It would be helpful if schools could add some of this (maybe a short “life awareness” course for each grade).
The flip side
• I want to profusely thank Devon and Damion of Universal Roof and Contracting. A few years after our roof replacement, some ridge caps blew off. They came right out, assessed and fixed the issues without charge and demonstrated their commitment to customer satisfaction even after the sale.
• Three cheers for R. Eric Thomas. No snappy rejoinders, just solid, sensible advice.
