What: NBA Celebrity Game and NBA Rising Stars

When: Celebrity Game at 7:00pm Eastern, Rising Stars at 9:00pm Eastern

How to watch: Celebrity Game on ESPN, Rising Stars on Peacock

This is the most the Charlotte Hornets have been involved in NBA All Star Weekend in a long time. Usually at best we get one player in the Rising Stars game and that’s about it. This year we have that, but the rookie playing in that is all over the place. We also get to see how much one of the guys running the team knows ball.

First, Hornets owner Rick Schnall will take part in the celebrity game which features a bunch of B list celebrities, WNBA players, and past NBA players, though this year the list of participating celebrities is a little better than usual. Keegan-Michael Key is part of the squad. There are some popular musicians and reality stars, and we get to see if NBA insider and newsbreaker Shams Charania is able to play basketball as well as he’s able to break news about it. Schnall will try to assert ownership dominance over Mat Ishbia of the Suns. And if the game is close late, Schnall needs the ball. We know he has the clutch gene.

After that, we get to see the NBA’s young guns square off in a mini-tournament of four teams, three composed of first and second year NBA players and the fourth composed of G League-ish guys. Knueppel is on team T-Mac with Tre Johnson, Zaccahrie Risacher, Bub Carrington, Ajay Mitchell, Kel’el Ware, Jaylon Tyson, Cam Spencer, and Alex Sarr. They play glorified pickup games to determine which collection of young players is the best. Seems like a perfect setting for Knueppel to splash some triples.
