3-point Contest

What to know about the event: The competition features two rounds, with players firing from multiple 3-point spots around the court in a 70-second window. The three highest scorers from the opening round move on to the championship round, where the top score decides the winner.

Which Blazers are competing? Damian Lillard, who has not played this season while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, will attempt to win his third 3-point contest. If he succeeds, he’d join Larry Bird and Craig Hodges as the only three-time winners of the event. Lillard was injured during the playoffs last season while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks waived him and stretched the remaining $113 million on his contract, making him a free agent. He chose to sign with the Blazers, returning to Portland, where he spent the first 11 seasons of his career. Lillard won consecutive 3-point contests in 2023 and 2024.

What other players are competing? Joining Lillard will be Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Kon Knueppel (Charlotte Hornets), Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers), Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers), Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Bobby Portis Jr. (Milwaukee Bucks) and Norman Powell (Miami Heat).

Two teams of U.S. players and one international team will compete, with each roster made up of at least eight players. USA Stars will open against the World team in Game 1. The winner advances to face USA Stripes in Game 2, while the Game 1 loser meets USA Stripes in Game 3. The two teams with the best records will move on to the championship game. If all three teams finish 1-1, point differential across each team’s two games will determine the finalists.

Which Blazers are competing? Deni Avdija was selected as an All-Star for the first time this season. The Blazers forward is averaging 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. Only three players are averaging at least 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists this season: Avdija, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. Avdija has been dealing with a lower-back injury. He’s played in only six of the Blazers’ past 16 games because of the injury, so it’s unclear at this point how many minutes he’ll play in the All-Star game.
