The No. 18 Georgetown College men’s basketball team (19-6, 5-4 Mid-South Conference) picked up a pivotal win over No. 6 University of the Cumberlands (19-6, 4-5 MSC), 73-61, at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.Â
Isaiah Mason scored 14 of his team-high 21 points in the first half. Georgetown first took its largest lead of the first half at 12 after Bubba Leavell’s layup at the 3:09 mark.
Leavell and Mason both connected for 3-pointers in the closing stages to help the Tigers to a 37-25 lead at the break.
Out of the locker room, Cumberlands sank consecutive 3-pointers to cut the gap to 37-31. It was still a four-point game with 4:23 left before Georgetown pulled away.
Mason also grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Julius Edmonds added 11 points with six rebounds and two steals.Â
Women: Georgetown 72, No. 15 Cumberlands 57
In an important game for Mid-South Conference and perhaps NAIA national tournament seeding, the Georgetown College women’s basketball team (18-7, 3-6 MSC) defeated No. 15 Cumberlands (17-8, 2-7 MSC), 72-57, at home Saturday.Â
Daisy Gale had a team-high 28 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kayra Freeman added 18 points with five steals and three rebounds.Â
Daysha Reid reaped double figures with 13 points and four rebounds.
Both Tiger teams have a Thursday bye before traveling to Cumberland (Tennessee) on Saturday.
