OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — Former Oklahoma City Thunder player Chris Paul announced he’s retiring from the NBA.

In a post on Instagram, the point guard for the Toronto Raptors said after over 21 years, he’s stepping away from basketball.

“As I write this, it’s hard to really know what to feel, but for once – most people would be surprised – I don’t have the answer lol!” Paul wrote in the post.

He went on to say that he’s filled with joy and gratitude and that playing basketball for a living has been an unbelievable blessing that came with a lot of responsibility.

Paul said the six years he spent away from his home and family were a sacrifice for everyone, and he knew it had to come to an end. He now looks forward to being the best teammate to his family.

Paul played one season with the Thunder in 2019-2020, but he spent his rookie year, 2005-2006, playing most of his home games in Oklahoma City. At the time, he was with the New Orleans Hornets, and following Hurricane Katrina, the team temporarily relocated to OKC.
