The Point God is officially hanging them up.
After 21 seasons in the NBA, Chris Paul announced his retirement on Friday on his Instagram. Paul, who had already said that this season would be his last, spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets from 2017 to 2019. He helped lead them to the 2018 Western Conference Finals in his first year with Houston, who took the eventual champion Golden State Warriors to seven games.
In his two seasons with the Rockets, Paul averaged 17.1 points, 8.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. Paul was a vital part of Houston’s success during his time with the Rockets, who had an 89-27 record in games Paul suited up for.
This season, the 40-year-old reunited with the Los Angeles Clippers, playing six seasons for them from 2011 to 2017 before coming to Houston. He played just 16 games this year for the Clippers before he was moved at the trade deadline and waived by the Toronto Raptors, averaging a career-low 2.9 points per game.
While his last season in the NBA may have been bittersweet, the future Hall of Famer still had a decorated career. Over more than two decades in the league, Paul earned 12 All-Star and 11 All-NBA nominations, also making nine All-Defensive teams while leading the league in steals six times and leading in assists five times.
