The Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline is approaching fast and there is a lot of rumors and speculation to follow. So, we’re putting together a tracker to keep up with all the latest news surrounding the Timberwolves.

President of basketball operations Tim Connelly has already swung two massive trades in his time in Minnesota. That’s put the Wolves front and center among many of the league’s most notable trade rumors, so let’s dive into the latest rumors, targets, and updates…

Timberwolves trade rumor tracker 2/4 – Ja Morant has a ‘strong preference’ to play in Minnesota or Miami

Memphis have already moved out Jaren Jackson Jr., and are still reportedly shopping Ja Morant ahead of the deadline. According to Yahoo’s Kelly Iko, Morant is “disinterested” in the idea of playing in Sacramento, who remain one of the most heavily interested teams in acquiring the guard. Instead, Morant has a “strong preference” to go to either Minnesota or Miami, according to Iko.

With 24 hours to go until the trade deadline, Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and his camp are disinterested with the idea of playing in Sacramento, with a strong preference for Miami or Minnesota in the event he is dealt, sources tell @YahooSports. https://t.co/1iI3xhfms0

— Kelly Iko (@KellyIko) February 4, 20262/4 – Wolves may need four teams to get necessary draft picks to Milwaukee

From SI’s Chris Mannix on Wednesday morning:

“The Bucks want Jaden McDaniels, a source tells SI, with Milwaukee seeing McDaniels, 25, as a potential future All-Star. But the Bucks also want multiple first-round draft picks, sources say, and Minnesota’s war chest of them is nearly empty,” Mannix writes.

“It’s why the Wolves have been canvassing the league in search of them. One source who has discussed a deal with Minnesota tells SI the Timberwolves have been clear that most of the roster—sans Edwards, of course—is up for discussion for the right draft compensation. The belief is Minnesota will have to get as many as four teams involved to make a deal work.”

Mannix adds that other teams around the league are advising the Bucks to hold off on trading Giannis until the summer, at which point those teams feel they offer Milwaukee more than Minnesota can right now.

2/3 – Shams hints at the reasoning behind Conley deal

Is it actually going to happen? Moments after breaking the Conley trade news, Shams notes that Minnesota was able to create significant tax savings and roster space “as they pursue a Milwaukee star this week.”

Minnesota have agreed to a three-team trade with Chicago and Detroit, that will send Mike Conley to the Bulls. The Wolves are also swapping 2026 first-round picks with Detroit. No word on who, or what, the Wolves are getting back. Is this a cap clearing move for something else?

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 3, 20262/3 – Draft capital a potential sticking point for Minnesota-Milwaukee

“Minnesota and New York don’t have the draft capital to seriously get into this mix right now,” Marc Stein said on Tuesday, noting that Giannis has expressed interest in playing for the Heat or Wolves.

If Minnesota waits until the offseason, it’ll have its 2026 first-round pick to offer the Bucks. Right now, all they can offer are second-round picks and a 2028 first-round pick swap.

The Miami Heat and Timberwolves appear to be the two teams Giannis would like to end up with, per @TheSteinLine

— Heat Central (@HeatCulture13) February 3, 20262/3 – Top insider thinks Wolves are a long shot to get Giannis

Jon Krawczynski, who is arguably the most plugged-in Timberwolves reporter, thinks it’s a long shot that Minnesota lands Giannis.

There remains a healthy skepticism that the Bucks would actually trade Giannis Antetokounmpo this week. The challenge for the Wolves and others is to get clarity soon so they can pivot if need be. (Still think it’s a long shot they land Giannis but we’ll see!)

— Jon Krawczynski (@JonKrawczynski) February 3, 20262/3 – Wolves chasing or not chasing James Harden?

Jake Fischer, via The Stein Lein, says the Wolves aren’t actively pursuing Harden. At the same time, a report from Clutch Points says the Wolves have targeted Harden but haven’t been able to gain traction.

2/2 – Wolves are “recruiting” third and fourth teams to try and improve offer for Giannis

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Minnesota are recruiting third and fourth teams to try and improve their offer in order to land Giannis. Windhorst says Minnesota is a longshot, and that if they can’t swing the blockbuster trade they’ll make a backup deal for a guard.

— NBA Courtside (@NBA__Courtside) February 2, 20262/2 – “Only way” Wolves can pull off a trade for Giannis is by including Jaden McDaniels

In an interview on SiriusXM on Monday, Marc Stein said Minnesota, along with New York, are behind the Warriors and Heat in what they can offer for Giannis. Stein also noted that it helps the Wolves if the Giannis sweepstakes drag out into the summer. In order to land the two-time MVP, Minnesota will reportedly have to give up Jaden McDaniels, says Stein. He noted that something the Timberwolves are still reluctant to do.

— Heat Central (@HeatCulture13) February 2, 20262/2 – Wolves are ‘in the game for Giannis’

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said Monday on ESPN that Minnesota is the “most aggressive” team in the West.

“The most aggressive team in the West right now is the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are in the game for Giannis,” Windhorst said. “I don’t believe that their offers can outweigh the other offers, and I’m not even sure that Giannis is getting traded before Thursday. The Timberwolves are being aggressive. If they don’t make what I would call a Hail Mary Giannis deal, I think they are aggressively looking to upgrade their backcourt.”

2/2 – Giannis trade talks escalating, Wolves still among ‘most aggressive’ teams

Shams on the Giannis trade talks:

“Over the weekend, the Bucks remained engaged with teams that have interest, given aggressive proposals. My understanding is they’ve submitted counteroffers to those aggressive proposals as well” pic.twitter.com/IGdJAkR46J

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Timberwolves and Heat are the two teams that are in direct pursuit of Giannis.

1/28 – Wolves ‘strong suitors’ for Giannis, according to Shams

Shams Charania reported that Giannis has communicated with the Bucks that he thinks it’s time to move on and that Milwaukee is listening to offers. Shams added that there are four ‘strong suitors’ for the two-time MVP, including Minnesota.

“I would look at Minnesota, Golden State in the West. New York and Miami, those are four strong suitors for Giannis right now on the market,” said Shams.

1/28 – Wolves “in on” Giannis if door opens

On a recent episode of his podcast, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski noted that if Giannis is available, the Timberwolves are “going to be trying to get in on him.” Krawczynski added that he believed it’s “unlikely” they get a deal done, but the Minnesota front office will certainly try to get something done.

That if became a reality Wednesday morning, with ESPN’s Shams Charania reporting that the two-time MVP is ready for a move, whether it be at the trade deadline or this summer.

The story also mentions Minnesota’s reported interest in Coby White, Tre Jones, Ayo Dosunmu, and even Tyus Jones. For the full story, click here.

The Kings are widely expected to move Ellis ahead of next week’s trade deadline with the guard on an expiring contract. According to Kings insider James Ham, the Timberwolves are one of four teams that have called Sacramento about the 26-year-old guard.

1/13 – Insider says there is a “good chance” the Timberwolves make a move before February

The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski indicated on his podcast in early January that he believed “wing-scorer, ball-handler, bench boost” are the biggest things Minnesota needs heading into the deadline. On whether he thinks the Wolves will actually get something done, Krawczynski said he thinks “there’s a good chance they do make a trade before February.”

1/12 – Bulls insider says Wolves targeting Coby White, mentions Ayo Dosunmu, Tre Jones as other possibilities

There has been steam linking the Wolves and a move for Bulls guard Coby White for months. Bulls insider Joe Cowley has been at the forefront of that reporting, saying in early January that the Wolves and Bulls were “engaged in serious discussions for White” back in early December. However, those initial talks cooled off for a bit, though they haven’t fully gone away.

“I’ve been told very strongly… that the Timberwolves are really not in the market for a high-salaried playmaker,” Fischer wrote in early January.

1/10 – Insiders say Wolves ‘not expected’ to pursue Ja Morant

Memphis guard Ja Morant has been a hot name thrown out in this trade cycle. With the Wolves in dire need of top-line guard the speculation linking the two are seemingly obvious. However, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Minnesota might not even be interested in bringing in Morant.
