The Los Angeles Clippers’ decision to cut Chris Paul from the team in early December ultimately led to Paul’s final NBA season being cut short.
The Clippers traded Paul to the Toronto Raptors before the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline. But that means he was left without a team for two months before the franchise moved him to another team. The Raptors never required Paul to report to the team and waived him on Friday.

Paul announced his retirement from the NBA that same day.

After Paul announced his retirement on social media, the Clippers posted a tribute video honoring the future Hall of Famer. He was one of the best players in Clippers’ franchise history, and he intended to end his career with Los Angeles.
But Paul’s wife, Jada Paul, was not impressed by the franchise’s efforts to honor Paul in his retirement.
“Girl, bye,” she commented on the tribute video.
Paul’s leadership style reportedly clashed with the franchise, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. When the Clippers cut Paul, the team had a 5-16 record, and Paul was reported to be holding players, coaches and the front office accountable for the disappointing start to the season.

The Clippers could have traded Paul as early as Dec. 15 but waited until the trade deadline to move him. Then, he was sent to a team that knew he would never actually play for them in a last-minute three-team trade deal.
The Clippers received criticism for the decision to cut Paul, with many claiming the decision was disrespectful to the veteran. And now, Jada Paul has made her frustration with the franchise clear.
