Jabari Walker has carved out a spot for himself in the Philadelphia 76ers‘ rotation after the Portland Trail Blazers released him and the Sixers signed him on a two-way deal in the summer. He’s become a key component in Nick Nurse’s squad, averaging 12.1 minutes in the 45 games he’s played this season.
Walker is putting up respectable numbers as a rotation option for Philadelphia this season, averaging 3.7 points on 40.3% shooting, 3.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists a game. His December 5 performance against the Milwaukee Bucks, where he put up 18 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, is a particular highlight.

With the postseason approaching and the Sixers preparing for a late push for a better playoff position, they made a roster decision that will keep him in the team for quite some time.

NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news that the Sixers are interested in tying the 23-year-old to a two-year deal. He pointed to Walker playing all of the eligible NBA games in his two-way contract as a factor in the front office’s decision.

Walker is an undersized power forward at 6’7″ and couldn’t stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting (27% this season). However, he proved himself valuable in defense and other aspects of the game, which is why the Sixers decided to keep him for two seasons.
Nurse and the coaching staff are also banking on Walker’s continuous development.
