Paul Pierce has never been shy about debating greatness, especially when it involves LeBron James. PP34 spent years battling Bron in some of the most intense playoff series in the late 2000s to early 2010s.
Their rivalry intensified when Pierce’s Boston Celtics eliminated James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008 and 2010, only for Bron to flip the script later, forming the Heat “Big 3” in Miami.

As James’ career expanded across franchises and decades, so did the perspective of those who competed against him. Paul, now a Hall of Famer and analyst, has had a front-row seat as LeBron begins to break records with his undeniable longevity.
So when Pierce spoke on the “Truth and Ticket” podcast with Kevin Garnett, he couldn’t help but gush about the greatness and longevity James has achieved throughout his illustrious career.
“I think nobody will have the single greatest individual career as LeBron. When you look at top to bottom, the numbers, the accomplishments, everything from All-NBA to All-Stars to the points,” he said.

“Nobody will ever have this type of longevity in the climate we are in the NBA, where load management, and LeBron being 41, he ain’t even honoring the load management like he out there playing,” added Pierce.
LBJ and PP34 come from the old era
While it may have been easy to deny LeBron’s accomplishments in the past, as many did, his resume has been undeniable in recent years. Four rings, four Finals MVPS, and four regular season MVPs, alongside 21 All-Star and 22 All-NBA selections. Not to mention James surpassing the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the league’s all-time leading scorer in 2023.

And in his 23rd season in the league, Bron continues to be an All-Star for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 22.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game so far this season, and has also bolstered the team when fellow star Luka Doncic is out injured.
Despite missing the first season opener of his career and the first 14 games of this season due to a sciatica injury, James has reinforced his role as the Lakers’ leader. He has always played when needed, a trait Pierce and Garnett believe is only found in players from the bygone era, which makes it harder for players to catch up to LeBron’s achievements.
“He came from a different era and cloth to where nobody’s going to catch that,” said Pierce.

“That’s another thing, guys lose desire. I think part of what we’ve seen with Bron is his desire too, man. He done accomplished everything in the game. Like what’s making you show up every night? You know what I’m saying? That’s really what it come down to, you wanting to play,” Garnett added.
Pierce also believes that no one can really catch up to James’ scoring tally of 42975 points and counting, except for Kevin Durant, who is currently sixth on the list with almost 11,200 points behind the King.
“And I’m trying to think of a player right now who has an opportunity, who’s on the path, if we say like KD, KD gon’ have to play like 10 more years,” Pierce stated. “So he need 10,000 more points. You put 2,000 a year for the next five years, which you got to average 25 points and play all 82 games.”

LeBron’s legacy will live on for decades
Until someone as talented and durable as King James comes along, there is realistically no chance any other player can surpass, let alone match, his several accolades, not to mention the impact he has on the sport.
When Bron does indeed call it quits on a remarkable career, the numbers and his impact will have already become the standard, and it will take a long time before someone as generationally talented as he is will try to challenge his greatness.
