South Alabama’s Chaze Harris Collects Second Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Honor

NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama senior guard Chaze Harris has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Jaguars to a pair of crucial road wins in league play.
 
Harris averaged 28 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 17-for-28 (.629) from the field, making each of his two 3-point attempts and making 20 free throws in victories at Southern Miss on Feb. 12 and Arkansas State on Feb. 14.
 
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Harris recorded his Sun Belt-leading third 30-point game of the season with 30 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals in a thrilling 92-88 overtime win at Arkansas State. He made eight field goals, a pair of 3-pointers and went 12-for-14 at the free throw line in the effort. Harris delivered the defining moment of the week when he hit a game-tying running three-pointer through contact with four seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime after the Jaguars trailed by 18 with 7:45 left. Fouled on the shot, he completed the four-point play to cap one of the most improbable comebacks of the season.
 
Harris got the week started with 26 points on 9-for-11 shooting, complemented by four assists, three rebounds and two steals in an 84-78 triumph at Southern Miss.
 
Harris also earned the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor on Dec. 23 and becomes the second player in the conference to be recognized twice this season along with Georgia Southern graduate guard Spudd Webb.
