ESPN broadcaster Stephen A. Smith lambasted Anthony Edwards for his ‘inexcusable’ behavior following the Timberwolves’ loss against the OKC Thunder in Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals 2025. Smith didn’t mince his words and asked Edwards if he is the “superstar” he claims to be or not.
Speaking on First Take, Smith said, “Are you the superstar player you claim to be or not? You find yourself in that precarious of circumstances if you lose this game…one would think you would embrace the level of aggression in order to do all that you can do so that your team does not lose.” Notably, during the fourth game of the series, Ant Man dropped only 16 points, four rebounds, and six assists for the Timberwolves, which became a crucial reason for their loss, pushing them to 1-3 in the series.
Smith also drew comparison between the performances of Edwards and the 2025 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who dropped another remarkable performance. SGA came up with 40 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists, guiding his team to another significant win in the series. Edwards, on the flip side, not only came up with a sub-par performance but also said that he “made the right play all night.”
The NBA analyst responded to those comments and said, “Shai went out on your home court and posted 40. And your response is, ‘Well, I didn’t struggle, I made the right play.’ That’s inexcusable.”
Anthony Edwards’ Stats in Western Conference Finals Series Against OKC Thunder
In the ongoing series between the OKC Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ant Man dropped his lowest performance as his side registered a narrow 128-126 loss to their top-seeded rivals. The 23-year-old started the series with an 18-point performance along with nine rebounds, and three assists.
In the next two games, he poured in 32 points and 30 points, respectively, contributing nine rebounds, and six assists each in Game 2 and 3, respectively.
For the Wolves to keep playing in the playoffs, Edwards needs to up his game and save his side from elimination as they are just one loss away from getting kicked off. In the fifth game of the series, Timberwolves will travel to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, May 28.
