Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant last played against the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 21, missing 12 straight games since then because of an elbow injury. Unfortunately, Morant is set to miss more time as he continues his recovery.
The Grizzlies star is dealing with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his left elbow. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the UCL is “most often injured by repeated stress from overhead movement” and is common in sports with repeated throwing.
Common symptoms of the injury include pain inside the elbow, limiting a person’s ability to throw, as well as “pain when accelerating the arm forward.” There may also be “tingling or numbness in the pinky and ring fingers.”
According to the Grizzlies, Morant is “progressing in his rehabilitation” from the injury. However, he’s still not at the level where he can manage the pain and return to play.
Morant is apparently still experiencing “discomfort” in his left elbow. With that said, the team said he will need at least two more weeks and will be re-evaluated afterward.
“Ja Morant is progressing in his rehabilitation from a UCL sprain in his left elbow, which was sustained during the Grizzlies’ game on January 21, but continues to experience discomfort,” the team wrote. “Morant will be reevaluated in two weeks, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.”
