Sam Connon analyzes which bets could hit in Thursday’s game between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers using DraftKings’ NBA Player Prop Trends Tracker.
The Los Angeles Clippers are set to host the Denver Nuggets at the Intuit Dome on Thursday night, with tip-off scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. If you’re looking to build out a same-game parlay (SGP) of NBA player props for the Western Conference showdown, DraftKings has you covered. Using the NBA Player Props Trends Tracker, we weighed averages, matchup grades, home/road splits and recent patterns to make a four-leg parlay you can tail ahead of Nuggets vs. Clippers.
Best Jonas Valanciunas player prop for Nuggets vs. Clippers
Pick: Jonas Valanciunas O 7.5 points (-116)
Jonas Valanciunas is averaging 9.1 points per game this season and 11.2 points per game since initially returning from a right calf strain in January. He has cleared 7.5 points in 74% of his games on the whole this season, as well as 73% of his road games. The Clippers present the veteran big man with a B-minus season matchup grade, but he has gone over 7.5 points in 20 of his 26 showdowns against B-minus matchups or easier. He also put up 11 points the last time he faced Los Angeles.
Even with Nikola Jokic back in the lineup, that hasn’t slowed down Valanciunas’ scoring production. He has scored more than 7.5 points in 10 of his last 11 games, including six of the seven games since Jokic returned from an injury of his own.
Best Bennedict Mathurin player prop for Nuggets vs. Clippers
Pick: Bennedict Mathurin 15+ points (-148)
Bennedict Mathurin is averaging 17.4 points per game this season, scoring at least 15 in 67% of his appearances this year. While he is still new to Los Angeles, Mathurin has notably scored 15+ in 65% of his home games this season as well. Mathurin has scored at least 15 points in six of his last 10, reaching at least 13 points in 11 of his last 13 – and one of those failures was when he left with an injury. That’s a high floor, keeping 15 points in play virtually every night.
Denver presents Mathurin with a C-plus season matchup grade, but he scored 15 the last time he played them. He has also hit that point threshold in two of his three games against C-plus matchups in this market. Mathurin also attempted 10 field goals and 10 free throws in just his second game with the Clippers last week, so he should continue to get high usage with James Harden traded and Darius Garland hurt.
Best Cameron Johnson player prop for Nuggets vs. Clippers
Pick: Cameron Johnson O 4.5 rebounds + assists (-134)
Cameron Johnson missed over six weeks with a right knee sprain, then immediately rejoined Denver’s starting lineup with a full workload prior to the All-Star break. In those three games back before the league-wide hiatus, Johnson cleared 4.5 combined rebounds and assists in all three contests.
On the whole this season, Johnson is averaging 5.8 rebounds plus assists. He has gone over Thursday’s line in eight straight games, 11 of his last 12 and 18 of his last 20, as well as 9 of his last 10 road games. And although the Clippers’ F season matchup grade seems daunting, Johnson has gone over 4.5 in all three of his showdowns with teams with that grade.
Best Kawhi Leonard player prop for Nuggets vs. Clippers
Pick: Kawhi Leonard O 38.5 points + rebounds + assists (-121)
On the surface, this doesn’t look like the most enticing bet. Leonard has only gone over 38.5 combined points, rebounds and assists in 44% of his games this season, averaging 38.0 per game in the category. The Nuggets also boast a C-minus season matchup grade for opposing small forwards’ all-around statistical production.
However, Leonard has cleared Thursday’s line in four of his last six while never dipping below 35 PRA in any of his seven appearances in February. His PRA average also goes up to 41.7 at home, where he has gone over 38.5 in nine of his last 13 and 65% on the whole this year. And for what it’s worth, Leonard is fresh off a 31-point explosion against Team World over All-Star Weekend, showing he is more than capable of putting a team on his back. James Harden is gone and Darius Garland is out, so Leonard will surely carry a heavy load in terms of shot creation and playmaking once again Thursday night.
