Transfer forward Mgbako withdraws from NBA draft, returns to Texas A&M

  • May 28, 2025

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (KBTX) – Mackenzie Mgbako, a recent addition to Bucky McMillan’s Texas A&M basketball roster via the transfer portal, has withdrawn his name from the 2025 NBA Draft and will play with the Aggies this season, the program confirmed with KBTX Tuesday.

“I always will have a special place in my heart, because he came here,” McMillan said of Mgbako Tuesday at SEC Meetings. “He had a lot of options. We didn’t have anybody on the roster, but he said, ‘Look, I want to be a part of this. I believe in you, Coach.’ And, so, him being here and coming b ack and trying to improve his value and winning a lot of games, I think it’s all going to work out the way that he wanted to.”

The Indiana transfer earned a chance to participate in the 2025 NBA combine due to his performance in the NBA G League Elite Camp. He was one of five players who earned an invitation from the G League showcase.

The 6-foot-9, 222-pound rising junior was a consensus 5-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American coming out of Roselle Catholic High School in Gladstone, N.J. By those metrics, he is the highest-ranked high school recruit to sign for an Aggie men’s basketball team.

In two seasons with the Hoosiers, Mgbako averaged 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, averaging 26.2 minutes per game. He began last season with a career-high 31-point performance against SIU Edwardsville.

Mgbako is a part of a growing 11-man roster for the Aggies in preparation for McMillan’s first season. Tuesday, the Aggies added Creighton guard Pop Isaacs to the fold as A&M’s ninth transfer of the offseason.

“You want to build a roster that you feel has not just all of the same,” McMillan said Tuesday. “And what I mean by that is, you can’t have a car that has six wheels and no steering wheel. So, we try to build it out right. We have shooters, slashers, thinkers, athletes and I think we built that correctly.”
