VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton women’s basketball (17-9, 9-4 AE) fell just short to Bryant (18-9, 8-6 AE), 63-60, Thursday evening in the Events Center. This is Binghamton’s first loss at home in conference play and just its second loss at home this season.
Kendall Bennett registered her 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Meghan Casey and Bella Pucci were Binghamton’s top scorers with 15 points.
“We didn’t get the calls to go our way, but we still had chances to win,” head coach Mary Grimes stated. “Credit to our team for being able to hold their composure and stay levelheaded.”
With 4:17 left to play, Leah Middleton hit a three to give Binghamton the lead at 60-58. Bryant would go down the other way and originally miss their opportunity, but Nia Scott grabbed her ninth offensive rebound of the game and kicked it out to Mimi Rubino, who drained the three-point shot to put the Bulldogs back ahead by one with 3:53 left on the clock.
After missed opportunities and turnovers by both sides, Binghamton found itself with possession with 14 seconds remaining on the clock. As the Bearcats ran their play, K. Bennett was called for an offensive foul, which sent the home crowd into a frenzy and gave Bryant possession with nine seconds remaining.
The Bulldogs would get fouled and head to the line, where Mia Mancini converted on both of her free throw attempts to make it a 63-60 game with six seconds on the clock. Binghamton had one more opportunity to try and tie the game, but was unsuccessful, leaving Bryant to steal the victory from the Bearcats on the road.
Binghamton remains as the No. 2 seed in the America East standings at 9-4. With three games remaining, the Bearcats will look ahead to Saturday’s game against UMass Lowell.
