A New Jersey man charged with killing the sister of an NBA player in Ocean County last year was indicted Wednesday, authorities said.

Shaquille Green, 30, of Jackson Township, was indicted on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon; the same offenses he was charged with when he was arrested in September, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The woman Green is accused of killing, Toraya Reid, is the sister of Naz Reid, an Asbury Park native who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Toraya and Green were in a dating relationship, prosecutors said.

Around 11 a.m. on Sept. 6, Jackson Township police received a 911 call about shots fired and an unresponsive woman in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road in town, the office said.

Police found Toraya lying near the exit of the complex, investigators said. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene 50 minutes later.

Officers saw a man, later identified as Green, running on North New Prospect Road and took him into custody, authorities said.

He told police he saw another man leaving her apartment before he allegedly shot her four times on a road near the exit to the complex, according to an affidavit of probable cause

Witnesses and a 911 caller had described his clothing to police and noted he was carrying a backpack, the affidavit stated. One man said he witnessed the shooting while another was in his apartment when he heard screaming and gunshots.

Officials later obtained a search warrant for the backpack and found a Glock 20 10 mm caliber handgun inside, court documents said. A wallet containing Green’s identification was also with the backpack.

Green has been held in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest and will remain there pending the outcome of his trial, the office said.
