Anthony Edwards has addressed the viral video from the All-Star Game with Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson.
Speaking to reporters after the Minnesota Timberwolves’ win over the Dallas Mavericks, Edwards explained there’s “nothing to clear up” and he’s “happy where I’m at.”
There was a moment captured on video after the All-Star Game where Edwards was heard seemingly telling Johnson “I can’t wait to come home.”
Since everything in the NBA becomes about the next superstar player who will seek a trade, there was some interpretation that Edwards’ comment meant he might look to get himself on the Hawks at some point.
There are other reasonable explanations for why Edwards might say what he did. The NBA was still on a break until Thursday after the All-Star event ended, so perhaps Edwards was taking a trip to Atlanta where he is from.
Edwards also might have been saying he can’t wait to back to his home in Minnesota to enjoy the rest of his All-Star break.
There has never been any indication that Edwards is unhappy with the Timberwolves. He has led them to the Western Conference Finals in each of the past two seasons. They have another strong roster this year that looks capable of making a deep postseason run.
Edwards is under contract for three more years beyond this season. It seems like his future is going to be in Minnesota, but the history of the NBA does suggest things can change on a dime.
