With injuries mounting for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs are in prime position to make a run at the top seed in the Western Conference.
San Antonio faced the Sacramento Kings Saturday night, looking to keep the pressure on.
They did just that, handing the Kings their 16th consecutive loss in a 17-point victory. The victory also marked San Antonio’s eighth-straight win.
As to be expected, it was Victor Wembanyama who did the most damage, scoring a game-high 28 points to go along with 15 rebounds, six assists, one steal and four blocks.
The trio of Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and Keldon Johnson each contributed 18 as well.
That said, it was Wembanyama who stole the show. Dominating one of the worst teams in the conference, Wembanyama added some flashy dunks to his highlight reel.
Following the game, Wembanyama was jokingly asked about having not participated in the recent dunk contest. However, Wembanyama’s response didn’t seem to be a joke.
Before answering, Wembanyama paused and eventually responded: “I’ll be in the dunk contest one day.”Â
With the dunk contest having received lots of criticism over the years, with many fans even calling for the event to be removed from All-Star Weekend, there’s no doubt that the addition of Wembanyama to the field would add some excitement.
If Wembanyama were to win, he’d become the tallest player ever to win the contest and the first seven-footer to take home the crown. The current tallest winner is Orlando Magic legend Dwight Howard, listed at 6’11”.
In the meantime, as we await Wembanyama’s entry, the Spurs will face the Detroit Pistons Monday in what looks to be a tightly contested matchup.
